"Les" Staples
December 1, 1925 – May 31, 2022
St. George, UT – Our beloved dad, Les Staples, passed away May 31, 2022, at the age of 96. He was born December 1, 1925, in Los Angeles, California to Phyllis Sprague and Frederick Hymer.
Les served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was deployed to Iwo Jima where he was wounded and received a purple heart. He spent most of his life working as a heavy equipment operator owning his own construction business. After retiring at 70 years old he purchased property in Ely, Nevada and built White Pine Storage and worked there until age 91.
Les is survived by his wife of 54 years, Colleen H Staples; six children: Sally Rae Waldo, Michael Leo Staples, Cindy Clark, Leslie Ann Olson, Jodie Topham and Billie Jean Davis; two stepchildren: Gregory James McClary and Vicki Lynne Bacigalupi; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held Monday, June 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. George City Cemetery, 600 East Tabernacle Street, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to the services, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
