Washington, Utah - Lew V. Carlson passed away June 2, 2013. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Mae and Vern Carlson on August 13, 1928. He was orphaned at age three and was raised by aunts and uncles.
Lew received his pilots license at age 16. He loved to fly. After high school he enlisted in the Army. He served four years, mostly in Germany. Upon returning home, he found and married his wife of nearly sixty years, Jacqueline Little Carlson.
Lew attended the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After attended nearly three years, Lew and Jackie learned their first born daughter, Lynn Marie, was born with a critical heart defect. Upon learning this, Lew and Jackie were drawn west to California so that they could seek out the best care for their daughters condition at UCLAs Heart Institute.
Upon arriving in California, Lew opened an auto repair shop in Cypress, California. "Carlsons Garage" He retired from his successful business in 1992, at age 64, BUThe never stopped repairing cars as he had a great talent of and love of doing so. Lew was known to be an exceptionally honest business man, almost to a fault. He gave away as many of his services as he charged for. Lew eventually graduated college with his "Airframe and Powerplant" license in the late 1992. He also taught "Auto Repair" at Cypress College, for many years.
Lew is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He truly lived a Christ like life. Lew and Jackie had five children; two girls and three boys. They are also the proud grandparents of eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Lew was preceded in death by his mother & father, as well as his three year old daughter, Lynn Marie. Lew is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; sons: Noel (Carol), Bradley (Wendy), Eric (Julie) Carlson; and daughter, Carrie Carlson Kartchner (Derek).
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Fields LDS 7 th Ward Chapel, 1450 South 3000 East, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Washington City Cemetery.
