Lona Larue
Thomas
May 4, 1938 – March 20, 2016
Hurricane, UT - Lona LaRue Evans Thomas passed away peacefully in Hurricane, Utah surrounded by family on her sweetheart's birthday, March 20, 2016. Happy Birthday Dad!
Lona was born on May 4, 1938 to Louva June Brady and Stanley Burnett Evans in Pocatello, Idaho. She grew up in Arimo, Idaho and attended North Marsh Valley High School, where she met and fell in love with Harold "Earl" Thomas. Lona and Earl were married in the Logan LDS Temple on December 29, 1958 and have five children.
Lona's passions were loving Earl, serving her family and friends, and helping people. She was a fun-loving soul who liked to play the piano, throw a backyard swim party, and take her kids and grandkids to the beach. Her freezer and pantry were always full of tubs of ice cream and treats.
As a very young girl, Lona developed a deep and abiding faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her testimony guided her life. She served as the counselor or president of every ward and stake auxiliary during her life's journey in Lewiston, Idaho; San Dimas, California; and Hurricane, Utah. She supported hundreds of missionaries and her husband as they presided over the Mississippi Jackson Mission.
Lona is survived by her children: Patti (Michael) Hanks, Jeanette (Brad) Campbell, Traci (David) Christiansen, Evan Earl Thomas (Jill Shoemaker), and Chad Harold Thomas (Tifany Richards). She is also survived by her sister, Debbie (Evans) Baldwin, 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
