Obituary

St. George, Utah - Lorna Chesnut Evans, 85, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013. She was born January 20, 1928, to George Henry and Elenor Barker Chesnut in Escalante, Utah. She was the eighth of nine children. She lived in Escalante until her family moved to Provo for her High School years. There she met her sweetheart, Lynn Robert Evans, and they were married on August 6, 1946. Soon after, they built their first home by hand in Orem where they lived until 2002. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Lorna was a homemaker who loved to sew, embroidery, crochet and was an excellent quilter. Much of her handiwork was lovingly given away to many of her family and friends. She had several church callings, but her favorite was a quilt director for 32 years. Every block was hand cut and expertly hand quilted with love. Lorna loved to garden and preserve her fruit and vegetables.

Anyone who entered their home could enjoy the aroma and flavor of homemade bread, rolls or soup. She always made you feel welcome and comfortable in their home. No one was ever a stranger and was very well fed.

Not only was she a loving wife to Lynn for 61 years, but a wonderful mother to her children. She is survived by her son, Richard (Charlotte) of St. George, UT; two daughters: Jorgette (Dale) Bowen of Colorado and Janet (Larry) Day of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Mary Pawloski and Dorothy Chesnut. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, a son and daughter at birth, six brothers and two sisters.

A special thank you to the management and sweet staff at The St. George River Road Beehive Home.
