Obituary

St. George, Utah – Lu was born August 17, 1933, to Elloyd and Emma Burton in St. George, Utah. She died peacefully at her home on November 17, 2022, just 3 months after her 89 th birthday where she was royally celebrated by her family with a Disney themed party including watching a video of the nightly fireworks from Disneyland on a large screen.

Lu was mostly raised in St. George other that the short time her family moved to North Hollywood and Burbank, California. The family would later return to St. George where she would graduate from Dixie High School. Lu would return to Southern California where she started her career of over 30 years with Pacific Bell Telephone Company. She met a fellow Pac Bell employee, Ed Fischer in Glendale, CA who became her forever sweetheart. They were married on November 19, 1955. Ed and Lu would have been married 67 years two days after her journey to Heaven.

Lu and Ed returned to Utah's "Dixie" to retire in 1985. Lu designed their dream home on Dixie's Black Hill which they have lived in for nearly 40 years. Many times, she told family and friends "I will never move out of this house unless it's on a stretcher." Her wish came true.

Several years ago, Lu became interested in researching the family genealogy. She became very involved in DAR, CAR, Colonial Dames, Jamestowne Society, and Southern Dames and Daughters of 1812. She was the "go to expert" for many ladies who needed help researching their ancestors. She was an accomplished quilter and was active for many years with the Dixie Quilt Guild.

Lu was an avid sports fan and loved going to the Dixie State college football, basketball and many other college sporting events. She was probably the loudest and proudest fan cheering for the Dixie State teams, and occasionally reprimanding the coaches and referees.

Lu loved being Grandma to her three grandsons. She really enjoyed spending time with Ed at their cabin in Pine Valley and later Central. Her favorite weekly outing was meeting with dear friends at Chuckarama nearly every Thursday afternoon for a delicious Mexican Buffet feast. In fact, Chuckarama was her last restaurant meal in mid-October.

Lu is survived by her husband, Ed; daughter, Tiffany (Shane) Malcolm; grandsons: Matthew, Connor (Sunny), and Logan; sister-in-law, Diann DeMello; brother, Mont (Joan) Burton; and many nieces and nephews that lovingly called her "Aunt Ludy". She was preceded in death by her parents, Elloyd and Emma Burton; son, Michael Fischer; brother, James Burton; and sister, Deon Gubler.

Respecting Lu's wishes, there will not be a viewing. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. George City Cemetery, 600 East Tabernacle Street, St. George, Utah.
