Obituary

St. George, Utah - Maitland Kenneth Hancox passed away February 26, 2013. He was born April 11, 1936 in Los Angeles, California to Constance Mathers and Gordon Hancox. He was married to Pat Carrigan for 24 years before her passing in 2005.

Mait served in the U.S. Navy in 1953. He worked in the theater in Connecticut as a professional dancer and as an instructor with the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. He worked with the mentally handicapped for four years and had an unusual ability to communicate and love those he served. Later in life, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska and worked for the U.S. Air Force on an isolated outpost on Shemya Island, known as the Black Pearl of the Aleutian Islands.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings and participated in providing the direction and choreography for a local church dance festival. He sang solos in church and was an active Home Teacher.

Maitland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; brothers, Morley and Gordon; and sister, Joyce.

He is survived by his brother, Ivan Hancox; sister, Virginia Ramirez; daughters, Maitlyn Baber and Tia Hancox; sons, Ernie, Michael and Joel; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivins LDS 2 nd Ward Chapel, 15 North Main Street, Ivins, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow services at the Ivins City Cemetery
