IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcia Craw
Moss
April 27, 1948 – October 28, 2024
Santa Clara, Utah – In the early morning of October 28, 2024, the indomitable spirit of Marcia Craw Moss finished her earthly mission. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, artist, author, Church leader, civic role-model, small business entrepreneur, camper, cross-country skier, and Dutch Oven cook-off world champion. Marcia lived a life marked by devotion, service, and love.
Born on April 27, 1948, in Logan, Utah, she was the daughter of Henry Wayne Craw and Rhea Beth Allen Craw. Marcia spent her growing up years in Logan, graduating from Logan High School. She spent a lot of time alongside her father as he worked at his car dealership. She developed an instinctual sense for business and an uncharacteristic ruthlessness in used car negotiating.
After graduation from high school, she began work for the USDA-ARS first in Ogden with the Forest Service, and then transferring to the offices at Utah State University in Logan. She was proud to have contributed to several major projects, including an international crop development collaboration with the then Soviet Union. She was a socialite in the singles ward and built many life-long friendships there. She was a lifelong outdoor enthusiast in backpacking and cross-country skiing. After 20 years, she retired from the federal government.
Shortly before her retirement, she met her eternal companion, Daryl Veril Moss, a widower with three children. They were married on June 21, 1986, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they raised the children and built a family founded in kindness, love, and service to others. Their signature family activity was traveling on the road and camping across the country. They explored National Parks, scenic vistas, and curious landmarks.
Marcia had a restless creativity. What started out as a handicraft art hobby turned into a side business selling at fairs and markets. Then she started selling work in consignment shops, taking up more and more booth space to keep up with demand. This eventually grew up and she and Daryl bought the store Handmade Treasures in Elko, Nevada. She renamed it Cherished Friends, to reflect how she felt about her customers.
At 5th and Idaho, Cherished Friends became the cornerstone of downtown Elko. In a small town without a lot of shopping options, Marcia worked to build a store where everyone could find a perfect gift. Cherished Friends continued to feature local artists and vendors. It also developed a more retail gift store. Marcia hosted art and crafting classes for all ages. She stocked art supplies requested by instructors at the community college and offered discounts to the students. The whole family was involved with the store.
Marcia wasn't just a clever crafter; she was a very suave businesswoman. She was a member of the Elko Downtown Business Association and worked to promote independent, local businesses. Even when big box stores eventually moved to Elko, Cherished Friends continued to thrive. She and Daryl stayed on top of business trends by traveling around the country to industry conventions. They had a wide circle of friends with vendors, other retailers, and other industry associates.
Marcia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities including in the Primary as a teacher, Ward and Stake Primary President, and in Relief Society serving as visiting teacher, counselor, activities leader, and Relief Society President. She loved all her associations and opportunities to learn from each calling and from those she worked with whom she loved dearly.
Marcia ran her store in Elko for 15 years. When Daryl encountered some health issues, they decided it was time for a milder climate and moved to Santa Clara, Utah. But Marcia wasn't finished expressing her creativity and helping others to do so, so she purchased another store in St. George and named it Dandylion Wishes. She ran the store focusing on scrapbooking. She inspired people to see scrapbooking as a celebration of life and memories. As she ran this store, she again fostered a community of many wonderful friends and shared her creativity and talents for the next 11 years. It was difficult for her when the covid pandemic forced her to close the store, but she adapted by going online. She hosted live streaming classes, produced YouTube videos, and sold customized scrapbooking kits. She continued to do crafting and express her creativity with drawings and cards done at home.
As she ran her stores, Daryl was always by her side, helping with computers, repairs, and anything else that she needed. They were a great team and worked together seamlessly. They served as ward missionaries together and volunteered in the St. George Temple. They developed many friendships in their ward and area.
Marcia was a devoted daughter, aunt, sister, and friend. She helped others in so many ways that were often unseen. Her example will always be one to emulate.
Marcia leaves behind her loving husband Daryl, her children Christopher, Rebekah, and Jonathan; her grandchildren Annabelle, Emmalee, and Malcolm; sister Ann Craw Brown; brother Gary Wayne Craw; and sister, Jan Marie Craw Cain. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Todd Holden.
