Obituary

St. George, Utah – Margaret Lucile, 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in St. George, Utah. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Margaret was born to Wallace Alvin and Lucile Scholes Loughney on January 13, 1935, in Logan, Utah.

Margaret was known for her wit, humor, positive attitude, and resilience. Her mother passed away in childbirth when Margaret was just two years old, and her father passed away from heart complications four months later. As a result, Margaret was raised in multiple homes with various family members in Logan, Utah, and Riverside, Idaho. She graduated from Snake River High School, where she participated in baton twirling, dance, and dramatic readings.

Margaret attended Brigham Young University (BYU) for three quarters. In 1954, she married Norman Floyd Lent, and together they raised three children in Pocatello, Idaho. Margaret later attended Grimms Business School and worked at First Security Bank for 25 years. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and especially enjoyed serving in the Primary and Young Women programs at both the ward and stake levels.

In 1988, Margaret returned to BYU and graduated with a degree in social work. Along with a friend, she co-founded The Dove Center in St. George, where they provided vital support to many women and children.

Later in life, Margaret reconnected with Ross Bowman, a lifelong friend, and they were married and sealed in the St. George Temple. They enjoyed ten years together, spending winters in St. George and summers in Brigham City, Utah. Most recently, they relocated to Legacy Assisted Living in St. George.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Ross Bowman; her children: Pauline Woodward (David) and Sandra Lee Erickson (Mark); her daughter-in-law, Christine Lent; her brothers: Paul Godfrey and Dennis Godfrey; and Ross's children: Jane, Carol, John, David, Richard, Edith, and Kay Jean. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Grandma M."

Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Lent; her son, Kelly Lent; her grandchildren, Kellie Christine Massaro, Brian Zachary Bolick, and Lindsey Lent; and her siblings, David Loughney, Mary Waite, and Virginia Campbell.
