Obituary

St. George, Utah – Aydell passed peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday June 15, 2025, at Abbington Assisted Living home at age 77. She was born in Burley, Idaho on October 20, 1947, to parents Wayne Devere and Fern "Tony" Hess. Aydell married Thomas H Peterson in Layton, Utah on June 9, 1967. Aydell and Tom attended temple classes and made preparations so that they could be sealed as a family with their children in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 14, 1978.

Places Aydell lived are Declo, Idaho; Bristol, Vancouver, North Bonneville and Goldendale, Washington; Ontario, Oregon; Torrence, California; Sunset, Ogden, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Kamas, Kearns, Granger, Taylorsville, Washington City and St George, Utah; Las Vegas and Logandale, Nevada. She traveled with Tom and sometimes with their daughters in each of those mentioned states and also to Arizona, New Mexico, Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Tennessee and the state of confusion. Some of those places they traveled as a couple by motorcycle.

After graduation from Evergreen High School in Washington Aydell attended beauty college and obtained her beautician's license in Clearfield, Utah through vocational rehabilitation, which paid for her hearing aids, schooling and childcare. She enjoyed taking care of others with this skill.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Aydell served in church callings including primary teacher, visiting teacher and enjoyed attending Relief Society functions with wonderful friends. She befriended neighbors wherever she lived.

While attending high school Aydell worked for Del Monte canning peaches, berries and beans. Also as a teen and later while raising her daughters she babysat children to help with the family income. Aydell used her hairdresser skills while working at a beauty parlor for Mona Cortez in Ogden. Later at their home in Taylorsville she cut, colored and permed friends and family members hair. Tom's grandma Bessie insisted Aydell was "the only person who did her hair the way she wanted it done". Aydell's daughters and Tom were also recipients of her hair handling skills.

When Aydell was a teen, she loved to play softball. Her other hobbies and interests were homemade crafts, crochet, sewing, watching daytime dramas, reading romances (she really liked Danielle Steel books) and poetry, journaling, genealogy/family history, church activities that involved making crafts for home, family outings such as picnics, family reunions with extended family, time spent with grandchildren and shopping. Her favorite places to shop were JoAnn craft and fabric store and Deseret Industries. Her influence of shopping at Deseret Industries was passed on to her daughters.

Her likes were making memory books with family pictures, die cuts, and stickers; arts and crafts that involved painting and sewing; decorating with apples, Hello Kitty, Strawberry Shortcake, and her favorite flowers white daisies. Along with quilting blankets she liked to crochet baby blankets and large afghans and give them to friends and family members.

Some of Aydell's favorite movies and television shows are Shirley Temple, Old Yeller, Benji, Dr Welby MD, Grizzly Adams, and the musical The Sound of Music. Some of her favorite musicians are Bobby Vinton, Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys, Charlie Pride, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Kenny Rogers and Lynn Anderson.
