LaVerkin, Utah - Our beloved mother, Marie Canova Thornton, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on February 23, 2012 after a short but valiant struggle with cancer. She was born January 31, 1918 in Cedar City, Utah to Thomas Raymond Canova and Mary Emily Gould. Marie married Bernard Allerton Thornton in Clark County, Nevada on September 9, 1937. They were sealed for eternity in 1952 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Marie is survived by her eight children: Bernardean (Dugald) Cameron, Judith Lawson, Peter (Janet) Thornton, Sara (Donal) Burnett, Cecil (Jay) Lee, Mona (Dan) Covington, Douglas (Lynette) Thornton and John (Patricia) Thornton; and more than 120 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters and a brother: Ann Mortenson of Utah, Nina Klein and George Canova both of California.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the LaVerkin LDS 1 st Ward Chapel, 481 North Main Street, LaVerkin, Utah. Visitations will be held Sunday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, Utah and on Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, (435) 635-9922.
