Obituary

Murray, Utah – Marilyn Kimball Giles Peterson, age 77, passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah, on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Cherished wife to Gary D Peterson. They were sealed together June 25, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Marilyn was born on June 20, 1943, in Salt Lake City to Parley P. and Marjorie K. Giles. She was the second of 6 children and was lovingly called Dolly by her father. Later her great grandchildren called her Grandma Dolly. She grew up with 4 brothers and one sister. She was a self-proclaimed tomboy who loved climbing trees and playing outside. She graduated from East High School 1961, attended BYU, and graduated from University of Phoenix.

She was a beautiful woman who loved life and connected well with everyone. She hated missing out on any of the fun and was always up for an outing, party, game, or visit.  She and Gary raised 7 children. She cultivated a home that invited friends and exchange students around the world to feel part of her family. She cherished the time spent with her siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family. She planned many parties and loved an excuse to get together where she insisted on pictures in order to preserve the fun memories. She always had goals, projects, and products to share. She loved sharing ways to make life better. She was a successful salesperson and executive administrator.

She and Gary served several missions together including Denmark, Nauvoo, Vermont, and pioneered the LDS tech worldwide mission from Utah. She and Gary also served in the Jordan River Temple, Nauvoo temple, and St. George Temple.

Marilyn and Gary made friends everywhere they lived, traveled, served, always including family as they seized every opportunity.  Her love surpassed all differences, and that love was felt by everyone.

She remained a devoted follower of Christ, walking His covenant path and inviting others to do the same. Marilyn was an example of Christ-like love, she loved so much and so freely. Some of her last words were "I love you", "it's going to be a great day", and "I am done." She made the most of every relationship and cheerfully declared her hopes for each day.

She will be missed dearly by her husband Gary D Peterson. Her children Becky Olsen (Milt) Manti, UT; Dan Peterson (Steph) Frisco, TX; Steve Peterson (Sally) Sandy, UT; Mark Peterson (Korin) Bellevue, NE; Julie Smith (Trent) Murray, UT; Amber Gunter (Walter) Eagle Mountain, UT; her 38 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her siblings: Parley Giles, Jr. (Linda), David Giles (Karen), Ronald Giles, Louise Plummer (David), John Giles (Randee); and so many friends and family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Parley Giles, Jr., daughter Debbie Peterson and granddaughter Wendy Peterson.
