St. George, Utah - Marjorie Eileen Gracie (Marge) passed away of natural causes at her home at the Retreat at Sun River on the evening of March 29, 2014. She was 85.
Marjorie was born February 9, 1929 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada to Alice and Clarence Down (both deceased). She attended a one-room country school until sixth grade; then completed her junior and high school years in Abbey, Sask. She attended business school in Calgary, Alberta; upon completion of her studies, she began working as a secretary for Ashdown Hardware in Saskatoon. Marjorie met Harry Gracie in 1947; in 1952 they married. By then, both Marjorie and Harry were employed by Marathon Paper Mills of Canada in Marathon, Ontario. In 1957 their first daughter, Elizabeth, was born; their second daughter, Ivy, was born in 1960. In 1964 the family moved to Wisconsin, where Marjorie and Harry remained until Harrys retirement in 1993. Marjorie and Harry retired to St. George, Utah where they enjoyed over 20 years of sunshine, warm winters, golf, and a rewarding church and social life together.
Marjorie was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle fan. She enjoyed long walks through Snow Canyon, water aerobics and golf. She attended meditation classes and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in St. George.
Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Harry; her daughters: Elizabeth and Ivy (Mark Herman); and her granddaughter, Maureen Gracie Quinn.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A viewing will be at 1:00 p.m, prior to the services, at Metcalf Mortuary. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
