St. George, UT - Marjorie Ann Bloom VanGilder passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012. She was born September 15, 1923 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Clarence H. Bloom and Eva Lena Shafferman. She married C. Ray VanGilder on July 2, 1941 in Oakland, Maryland. They were sealed August 14, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church, not limited to Primary Teacher and Relief Society President. She worked in the St. George LDS Temple for 14 years. Her favorite position was working with the new brides. She also worked in the extraction program from its inception. She loved doing family history and genealogy, reading, gardening and taking long trips with Ray. They made 32 trips cross country between Utah and West Virginia.
She is survived by her two sons: David R. (Sandra) VanGilder and Kevin J. (Kathy) VanGilder both of St. George; daughter-in-law, Sue VanGilder of Fairmont, West Virginia; and daughter, Nancy (Greg) Newman of Las Vegas, NV. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
In addition to Ray and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Bloom; sister, Elizabeth Bloom; son, Terry L. VanGilder; and daughter, Judith L. VanGilder.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS 16
th
Ward Chapel, 550 East 700 South, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Thursday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Friday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
