Obituary

Marlen Dean McGhie, 87, passed away on July 23, 2014 at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born on January 20, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the eighth child out of ten children to Sigrid Rosalina Johnson and John LeRoy McGhie.
Before college he served in the Military Army Officers Training Program at the University of Utah at the age of 17. He then served in the Navy until World War II ended. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Physical Education and minored in Military Science. He received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and then flew 55 missions in the Korean War as a Navigator.
He married Phyllis Watkins on November 9, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After graduating in Physical Therapy from Stanford University, he was a self-employed Physical Therapist for 30 years in the Bay Area in Northern California. Marlen and Phyllis raised seven children in that area and enjoyed family activities. Golf and tennis were favorite pastimes along with visits from their family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to several foreign countries including Russia and China.
He served in many callings in the LDS Church including four missions and eight years as a Temple Ordinance Worker in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his wife, seven children, 29 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
