IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Emilie
Schaumkel Meredith
August 21, 1942 – January 23, 2024
St George Utah - Martha Emilie Schaumkel Meredith passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Martha was born on August 21, 1942 in Neiafu, Vava'u, Tonga. Martha was the youngest of five children to Frank Strantz Schaumkel and Olga Emilie Wolfgramm.
Martha was the granddaughter of Otto Paul Schaumkel and Siosianna Maile Feletoa, as well as Fredrick Gustav Ludwig Wolfgramm and Martha Emilie Sanft. Martha and her family left Vava'u in 1952 by ship, sailing to New Zealand. Most of Martha's childhood and early years were spent in Auckland where she later attended New Zealand Church College. Martha met her husband, Michael Ford Meredith in New Zealand, and on August 25, 1965, they were sealed at the Hamilton New Zealand Temple. They had two children together, in New Zealand, who were Serena and Tonya. Martha, Mike, and their family then left New Zealand and set sail for California while 8 months pregnant with her son Cliff. They then had 5 more kids: Cliff, Lillian, Candice, Dana, and Shannon.
Martha and her family spent most of their time in Chula Vista until the mid-80s, moved to Denver for several years, and in the late 80's Martha and her family relocated to Salt Lake City. Mike and Martha raised two more kids along with their 7 children: Heather and Chart, both of whom are from Serena, with Heather being the eldest granddaughter and Chart the eldest grandson. Martha was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, loved to do visiting teaching, attending church activities, and studied family history. Martha was known for her cooking skills and catered many events throughout her lifetime. Martha was a soft spirit, had a strong love for all of her family, and always brought the family together.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Stranz Schaumkel and Olga Emelie Wolfgramm; her sisters: Fifita Ofa Ki Amelika Schaumkel Price and Rona Delilah Schaumkel Mangisi; and her brother, Lambert Tyrone Schaumkel. Martha is survived by her husband, Michael Ford Meredith; and her children: Serena Meredith, Tonya Arterburn, Cliff Meredith, Lillian Meredith, Candace Randell, Dana Neves, Shannon Lokeni, Heather Keate, and Chart Meredith. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as her eldest sister, Louise Dawn Schaumkel Wihong
