St. George, UT - Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McCarroll, age 96, was born April 6, 1916 in Butte, Montana to John Tippett and Mary Elizabeth Walters. She passed away peacefully in her home October 8, 2012.

Betty had a happy childhood in Butte, always being looked after by her older brothers. She started school in a one room grade school with 20 other children in Walkerville, Montana. Betty was very smart and was especially good at spelling.

Betty graduated from Butte High School where she was a member of an all girl drum corps, which at the time, was the only one in the nation. After graduation, she attended nurses training for a year and a half. She returned home after the death of her father to help out her mother. After going back home she enrolled in business college. After graduation she was hired by a real estate insurance office where she became office manager.

Betty was married May 21, 1940 to Robert Blake, they were later divorced. They moved to California shortly after their first child was born. Betty always missed Butte and it took her several years to learn to love California.

She worked for Hughes Aircraft Co. as a secretary. When she worked at Hughes she met and fell in love with her knight in shining armor, George McCarroll. They were married in 1955, and their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple on January 13, 1975. When they married mom gained two daughters, Sandi Tolle and Kathy Schwiermann, both girls have been a great blessing in her life. After George and Betty were married for several years they moved to Utah to be near her daughter, son and their families.

Betty was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she served in many callings in Relief Society, primary and young women. Betty and George also served in the temple as sealers for several years. Betty was a Pink Lady at the hospital for many years and loved doing volunteer work there. She enjoyed serving others and was a great example to her family, and had unconditional love for her family and friends. Betty had a bright mind and always kept up with current events, especially politics. Betty also had a great sense of humor.

Betty will be deeply missed by all who loved her. We know she is with her loved ones who have been waiting for her to return home. We love you and will keep you in our hearts always.
