Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Mary Mortensen, passed away peacefully on April 7,
2018. She was 92 years old. Mary was born on February 4, 1926 to William Hart Manning and Elda Ririe Manning in Cedar City, UT. She thrived in Cedar City with Church and school activities and growing up with her beautiful family. She was the youngest of eight children. She said that their home was always filled with beautiful music.
Mary and her beloved husband, Grant William Mortensen, were married on August 2, 1946 in the St. George LDS Temple. Grant graduated from BYU and then taught at Ricks College in Rexburg, ID. Mom hated the snow and cold and wanted to live somewhere warm. They moved to Reseda, CA, and then to Canoga Park, CA. Grant taught and spent most of his career in the aerospace industry. They stayed in Canoga Park for the next 40 years. Mom also had various jobs, especially to contribute while her boys were on their missions. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mary's greatest desire was to do whatever Heavenly Father wanted her to do. She raised her children with love and kindness. She taught her children the Gospel of Jesus Christ by example and love. Mary faithfully served in many callings in the Church, including a mission to Fort Lauderdale, FL. She loved going to the temple. She was loved not only by her family, but everyone she came in contact with.
