Murray Poulsen
May 22, 1938 – January 20, 2026
Mary Lou Murray Poulsen, most recently of Orem, Utah, peacefully returned to her eternal companion on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born May 22, 1938, in Richmond, Utah to LeRoy Thorpe and Mary Alice Murray. She married Scott LeRoy Poulsen in the Logan, Utah Temple on September 20,1957.
She was the youngest of 4 children: two sisters, Foneta and Elona, and one brother, LeRoy Duane.
She attended grade school at Richmond Elementary, junior. high at Lewiston Jr. High, and high school at North Cache in Richmond.
She met her future husband on July 27, 1956, at an M-Men and Gleaner Election which was held at the Lewiston City Park. Mary Lou ran for the Gleaner leader from her ward and Scott ran for the M-Men leader from his ward. They were both elected and that started a relationship that lasted 68 years. They have 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
They lived in Lewiston, Utah before building a small home in Garland, Utah, and then moved to Hurricane, Utah where they lived for 52 years before needing to be moved to assisted living in Orem, Utah. Scott passed away 3 short months ago.
She served valiantly in all of her church callings which included Ward and Stake Relief Society and Young Women presidencies, Primary and Sunday School teacher as well as Nursery leader and Cub Scout leader for many years.
She worked as a custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 30 years. For the last 10 years as a church custodian, she worked side by side on a team with her beloved husband.
She was a gifted seamstress and immaculate housekeeper. She used those talents throughout her life to help bring in extra income for the family.
She is survived by 4 children: Patsy Ross (Ben) of Orem Utah, David Poulsen (Joy) of St. George Utah, Diane Sherwood (Loid) of Nampa Idaho, Clare Poulsen (Carrie) of Cedar City Utah; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and sister Elona Christofferson of Homedale, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents: LeRoy Thorpe and Mary Alice Murray; her siblings: Foneta Whittle and LeRoy Duane Murray; and grandson; Colton Poulsen.
Graveside services will be Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hurricane City Cemetery. A family memorial service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Orem Utah Orchard Stake House on the corner of 800 East and 800 North in Orem, Utah.
Everyone attending the services is invited to honor Mary Lou by wearing her favorite colors pink and/or blue.
