LaVerkin, UT - Mary Janice Richmond, 56, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her loving family after a valiant struggle with ALS on May 19, 2015 at her home. She was born November 10, 1958 in St. George to Jene Burke Chadburn and H. Lorene Barrett. She married Kenneth Paul Richmond in the St. George LDS Temple on August 14, 1981. Mary Janice, a life-long resident of Washington County, graduated from Dixie High School in 1977 and later attended Dixie College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in 1993. She then pursued a degree in secondary education at SUU in 1996 to become a science and math teacher. After teaching at Millcreek High School and Hurricane Middle School, she began teaching Chemistry and Math at Hurricane High School where she taught for over 12 years. During her tenure at HHS she returned to SUU and obtained her Master's Degree in Forensic Chemistry. She loved education and teaching and received many awards for her efforts including the Presidential Award for Math and Science Teaching in 2002 and obtained her National Board Certification for Chemistry in 2006. As a native to beautiful Southern Utah she enjoyed sewing, quilting, hiking, camping, photography and sketching nature. As a lifelong faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mary served in many fulfilling callings and spent her later years as a Temple Ordinance Worker for the Saint George, Utah Temple. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ken; children: Audrey, St. George; Robert (TeNeille), Gilbert, AZ; Darren (Casee), LaVerkin; Rachel Kelly, Beaverton, OR; Chad (Lindsay), St. George; Brothers and Sister: Arden Chadburn, Steve Chadburn, and Linda Neighbor; 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Jene Chadburn; mother, Lorene Barrett; sister, Verlee Tomarello; and granddaughter, Mariahnna Hayes. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the LaVerkin LDS Stake Center, 481 North Main Street, LaVerkin, Utah. Visitations will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary located at 140 North Main Street in Hurricane, Utah and Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the LaVerkin LDS Stake Center. Interment will be in the Toquerville Cemetery.
