Obituary

Mary Walker, loving mother of 4, grandmother of 21, great grandmother of 50, great-great grandmother of 15, and great-great-great grandmother (through marriage) of 3, returned to her Heavenly Father and her eternal companion, Roscoe Stringham Baker, on August 6, 2015 from her home in St George, Utah. Mary was born 102 years ago on March 17, 1913 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, the fifth of ten children of Marlin and Rhoda Allred. On July 10, 1935 she married Roscoe Baker in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple. Mary lived in Southern Alberta until 1947 and in SW British Columbia, Canada prior to moving to Southern California in 1952. After Roscoe died in 1964, she worked as a beautician in Glendora, CA and Cody, WY. Prior to marrying Eldon Walker in 1976, she had the adventure of living in Zagreb, Yugoslavia for over a year. Mary and Eldon lived in Powell, WY and for several years wintered in St. George, until moving permanently to St George, UT in 1988, where Eldon died in late 1989. Mary was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many leadership and teaching positions. She was always reliable and committed to excellence. Besides being a great homemaker, Mary was artistic and loved to learn new things. She cared about others, was outgoing, enthusiastic and a good friend to many people. Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Roscoe Baker and Eldon Walker; eight of her nine siblings; her daughter, Faye Olson; and grandchildren: Steven Walton and Tiffany Baker Fackrell. She is survived by her children: Shirley Perkins of St George, UT, Philip (Karen) Baker of Sandy, UT and Dwight (Dianne) Baker of St George, UT; Her youngest sibling: Orley Frank Allred (89) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; Her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Meetinghouse, 449 S. 300 E., St George, Utah, on the east side of the temple. There will be a viewing prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The graveside will be August 18, at 12:00 p.m., at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 S. Grand Ave. in Glendora, CA. We thank Zion's Way Hospice for the fine, compassionate help they provided Mary over the past 8 months. Mary requested that in lieu of flowers a donation be given to either the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT or the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
