St. George, Utah - Maurice David Cyr "Moe" passed away at home on August 4, 2012 due to a heart condition. He was born September 4, 1951 in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Joseph Romeo Cyr "Romeo" and Germaine Therese Brasseur "Therese". Moe grew up just across the Canadian border from Edmundston in the town of Madawaska, Maine and was naturalized as a U.S. Citizen the same year he graduated from Madawaska High in 1969. He was proud of his French Canadian heritage and often remarked how difficult it was during his early years in school having to learn English as a second language. Moe was from a long line of French Canadians who immigrated to Canada long ago and who had a strong family convictions and raised large Catholic families. Moes dad had 18 siblings and his mom had 12 siblings, so he enjoyed his many uncle, aunts and cousins.

Following graduation, he embarked on a magnificent 23 year career with the U.S. Air Force serving at many stateside (10) and overseas (3) bases(including Thailand, one of his favorites), achieving success in four different career fields. Moe also earned many awards and accolades including two Air Force Commendations medals and a two-year college degree from the Community College of The Air Force in Resource Management. During his years of military service, Moe met the love of his life, Nancy Lynn Anderson (Big Bear, California), married her in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on October 25, 1977, and they had three wonderful children born in three different countries: Stephanie (California, USA), Ben (then, West Germany) and Denise (Okinawa, Japan).

Retiring from the military in 1992, he settled his family in beautiful St. George, Utah, where he especially enjoyed his next unexpected career in Group Sales for the Best Western Abbey Inn. While there, he befriended many peers and acquaintances but none more that the friendship he shared with his employer, Shayne Wittwer, who Moe regarded as one heck of a decent human being. Moe liked to keep things simple and low key.... working in his yard, going for a swim, visiting the sick, watching sports, seeing dear friends (the Pedersens), spending time with the grandkids, keeping family history records, phoning his siblings regularly and teasing (joking) always! He also liked to sneak in a NASCAR race in Las Vegas with his beloved nephew, Jonathan, attend USAF Thunderbird Air Show at Nellis AFB with family or take a summer trip to California beaches and attractions. He had a knack of breaking down any problem with his quick wit and direct approach. Moe didnt "beat around the bush" which was not always good...you knew exactly where he stood! Despite his efforts to "hide his light under a bushel" as he would say, his light shone bright and often pushed him into the spot light where he was a might uncomfortable.

As a convert to the LDS faith at age 25, Moe served in many church callings and as Home Teacher over the years.

Maurice David Cyr "Moe" is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nancy; children: Stephanie (Ryan) Slack and granddaughter, Riley of St. George, Utah, Benjamin Cyr of Shaw AFB Sumter, South Carolina, Denise Cyr of Salt Lake City; and siblings: Roderick Ronald Cyr "Rick" of Cortez, Colorado and nephew, Aaron [children: Kaziah, Kayin and Kamilah], Naomi, Micah (Antje) [their children: Zoe and Micah]; Benjamin (Brittnae), and Nathaniel all of Bangor, Maine; Daniel "Dan" Mark (Janice) Cyr and their children: Jamie, Jared and Danielle; John (Diane) Cyr, their children: Jonathan (Jayden), Justin and Ashley; and his sister, Vicky (Carl) Albert of Madawaska, Maine and many other cousins, nieces and nephews around the country. Moe was preceded in death by his father (March 26, 1967) and mother (February 28, 1993); and grandson, Dylan Ryan Slack (March 19, 2010).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morningside LDS 6 ^th Ward Chapel, 930 Morningside Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd and on Thursday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel.
