St. George, Utah - Meda Jensen Curtis passed away March 28, 2012. She was born March 7, 1910 in Millville, Utah to Joseph Moroni Jensen and Augusta Amelia Elvira Jeppson Jensen. She married Gail James Curtis on August 12, 1933. Together they raised seven children, five daughters and two sons.
Meda and Gail worked together building houses, many in Las Vegas, Nevada and St. George, Utah. She painted, laid tile and did construction clean-up on every house they built.
She enjoyed serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She taught Primary and served as a counselor in the Relief Society, but mostly her service was music related.
One of her greatest joys in her life was music. She loved to play the piano, sing and dance. In her early twenties, she throughly enjoyed playing piano for music classes at the Millville Elementary School. She entered many dance contests with her brother, Emuel and sometimes they would win. She also sang in many Church Choirs. She last sang with a group of ladies called "The Keynotes."
Meda is survived by her children: Marcene (Glen) Moutray of St. George, Utah, Deanna (Sherill) Pugh of St. George, Utah, Kaye Simpson of Carson City, Nevada, Debra (Craig) Hammer of St. George, Utah, and Steven (Mary) Curtis of St. George, Utah; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gail; Daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Rulon) Curtis; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry (Karen) Curtis; and son-in-law, Baynes Simpson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Tuesday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery.
