St. George, Utah - Merle Edwin Lamson, 92, passed away peacefully July 9, 2023, in St. George UT with his children by his side. He was born August 10, 1930, to William E and Elfleda Keys Lamson, in Yakima, Washington. He married Norma Roberts in 1964 and later divorced.

Merle graduated from Yakima Senior High School in 1949 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. After returning home, Merle continued his education at Yakima Valley College, BYU, Columbia University, UCLA, and receiving a PhD in education from the University of Utah.

Merle worked for BYU in the library and information sciences for more than 30 years.

Merle converted to the LDS church as a teenager and found great comfort in his faith.

He is survived by his son, Steve (Yvonne) Lamson of Salem, UT; daughter, Merlene McDaniel of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren: Kelly and Nicole; and a great grandson, Ryder. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert A Lamson; and sister-in-law, Connie Lamson of Orlando Fl.

Merle will be laid to rest with his parents in Yakima, Washington at a later date.
