St. George, Utah - Rev. Michael V. Chamness passed away unexpectedly at his home in St. George on December 18, 2021. He was born in Benton, IL to Lyndell V. Chamness and Mary Ann Eskew. Raised in Benton and later in Escondido, CA he attended San Diego State University then went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology at Denver University in 1991. He served Trinity and Sunrise Mountain United Methodist Churches in Las Vegas, Sedona UMC in AZ, Good Shepherd UMC in Thornton, CO and has served Shepherd of the Hills UMC in St. George since July of 2011. His passion for music led him to establish and participate in a number of bands and other musical performances, all of which gave him great joy.

Michael is survived by his wife, Anne Chamness; two children: Sarah Gorman-Chamness and Alex Gorman-Chamness (Samantha Congdon); his mother; brother, Keith A. Chamness; and sister, Susan E. Eskew. He was preceded in death by siblings: Susan Ann Shaw, Craig L. Chamness, Kevin L. Chamness; and his father.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Shepherd of the Hills UMC on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm. A future memorial is also being planned at Escondido First UMC in CA.
