IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Hyrum
Cox
April 1, 1981 – September 27, 2024
St. George, Utah – Michael Hyrum Cox, 43, passed away in a private plane crash on September 27, 2024. He was born April 1,1981, to Raymon Dale and Susan Cox in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike was a handsome baby with bright blue eyes and an infectious smile. He was a happy child who brought so much joy to his family.
Mike spent most of his life in Las Vegas. He graduated high school from Advanced Technologies Academy in 1999 where he cultivated his love of learning, computers, and technology. It was during high school that he met the love of his life, Amanda Neilson. They both were asked to serve on a youth conference committee, and he was smitten. Mike faithfully served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Tulsa, Oklahoma Mission from 2000-2002. He loved sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and he was a committed and faithful believer.
Mike and Amanda were married in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple on April 2, 2004. They worked and served side by side and created a happy marriage and home.
One of the great joys of Mike's life are his four children. Mikey was welcomed in 2006, Josh in 2008, Hannah in 2010, and Lizzy in 2013. Being a dad was Mike's favorite thing. He was a devoted family man who loved cheering his children on. He took seriously the role and responsibilities of being a loving father and husband. He taught his children to work hard, value education, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mike loved to learn both inside and outside of the classroom. He graduated from the College of Southern Nevada in 2009 and continued his education with a Bachelor of Business Management degree in 2019. He was an entrepreneur and founded several small businesses including Las Vegas Geeks, St. George ProTechnology, and Cox Realty.
In 2017, in a desire to be able to help his parents, Mike moved his family to St. George, Utah which has become their home. They immediately became a blessing to the community and family.
Mike has joyfully served in many callings in the church, frequently as a technology specialist. He was currently serving as both a Gospel Doctrine Teacher and a Priests Quorum Advisor. He loved serving in the temple, doing family history work, and studying the scriptures.
Mike had a variety of talents and interests. He loved flying airplanes, traveling, photography, investing, electric vehicles, politics, scuba diving, accounting, and church history. But most of all Mike loved people. He was a great listener. He was quick to volunteer, slow to judge and eager to help. He was a trusted friend to many. His death has left us with a deep void, but a sense of pride that Mike has endured to the end, kept his covenants, loved and served his neighbor and his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mike is survived by his favorite person, his beautiful wife Amanda of 20 years; his sons: Mikey and Josh; daughters: Hannah and Lizzy; his mother, Susan Cox of St. George; brothers: Ray (Christine) Cox of St. George and Bill (Kinsly) Cox of St. George; sisters: Maria (Dan) Clayton of Rio Rancho, NM and Linda (Alan) Martin of Eugene, OR; his in-laws: Richard and Emily Neilson of Ferron, UT and Brian (Heather) Neilson of Soldotna, AK; and his wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike was joyfully reunited with his dad, Raymon Dale Cox; his sister, Michelle Cox; his grandparents: Lennart and Glenna Pearson, and Hyrum and Nellie Cox.
