IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mira Loy
Sudweeks Ott
June 17, 1934 – January 17, 2026
Washington, Utah - Cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother Great-Great-grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Mira Loy Ott returned to her Heavenly Father and loving family January 12, 2026. Mira was born to goodly parents, Claude and Emma Jane Sudweeks, on June 17, 1934, in Tropic, Garfield County, Utah. She was the ninth of their ten children. She attended school in Tropic and graduated from Tropic High School. She married her sweetheart, James Robert Ott, on March 21, 1951. Their eternal union produced six children, five boys and one girl. Shortly after getting married, she and Bob moved to Hawthorne, Nevada, where she lived from 1952 to 1953, and Bob worked at the Ammunition Depot. Mira and Bob moved back to Tropic, Utah, where Bob was employed at the Bryce Canyon National Park. Her family later moved to live in the park where she raised her family of five children.
In 1983, Bob retired from working with the National Park Service. He and Mira moved to Cannonville with their family. The red rock area they settled in was the only place for them. They soon started The Trailhead Station, a tourist business at Kodachrome State Park where they provided horseback and stagecoach rides, camper supplies, local information and lodging. Mira Loy ran the business for the most part for 23 years. Mira Loy was a top hand affectionately known as "Mother" in the family ranching business and worked at most everything that needed to be done, on top of the family domestic duties, where she cooked exceptional meals, baked bread weekly, along with cookies, cakes and other delicious desserts that were savored by her family and others at community events.
She served many years as a Lady Lion alongside Bob in the Lions Club events and fundraising activities for the community.
Mira spent a significant amount of time caring for her aged parents and collecting a lot of family history and family memorabilia because families were important to her.
Mira spent countless hours in service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her community.
Mira served as a board member of the local Farm Service Agency for years.
However, she wasn't much help to Bob when he fumbled to put bullets in his gun, as an adult male bear attempted to enter their home through a screen door on a summer afternoon. She was able to make enough noise to probably scare it away though.
She enjoyed romance movies when she had the opportunity to attend them or watch them on TV, and country music was her favorite for listening and dancing.
Lately, her favorite saying was "Don't get old!"
In her later years, Mira helped other residents at the care center by mending their clothing articles, repairing a hem, a patch, or a button sewn on.
Mira is survived by five of her children: Robert Joseph Ott (Randa Kay), Valen D. Ott, James KoWan Ott (Melanie), Tamra Loy Aposhian (Lawrence), Stacy Gene Ott (Angie), and David Barney. Reece preceded her in infancy.
