LaVerkin, Utah - Muriel Jean Gifford (Applegate), 93, passed away at her home surrounded by family on June 9, 2024. She was born on December 10, 1930, in Cedar City, Utah.
Muriel was a loving and loyal person who cherished her family and friends above all. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated much of her life to serving her faith. Muriel had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly Cedar Mountain, and instilled a passion for animals and nature in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and playing board games, dominoes, and card games. In her leisure time, she found joy in watching forensic and true crime TV programs and game shows. In her later years her favorite program was the "Chosen". She had a great love for her Savior and the scriptures.
She is survived by her siblings: Elda Kirkpatrick and Kathleen Snow; her children: Nalani Jean Stewart (Howard), Steven Terry Gifford, William Tell Gifford, Marianne Schultz (Barry), and Kathleen Craner; along with 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, James and Katherine Applegate; her spouse, Nathan Bernarr Gifford; her sibling, James Applegate; and her grandchildren: Matthew Gifford and Zachary Gifford.
Muriel's educational journey included attending elementary and high school in Cedar City, as well as one year of college in the same city. She was the wife of Nathan Bernarr Gifford, who served 21 years in the US Navy, residing in various locations.
Throughout her life, Muriel worked as a Soda Hop in high school, a dedicated homemaker, and later as a Secretary/Cashier at Scandia Family Fun Center from 1985 to 1993.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in LaVerkin located at 70 South 300 West, LaVerkin, UT. A visitation will be held prior to the services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
Interment will take place immediately after the service at the LaVerkin City Cemetery located at 580 North State Street, LaVerkin, UT 84745.
