Obituary

St. George, Utah – Nadine "Denny" Tolman Hurley, 93, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Her family was beside her as she passed away in her home (She did it her way). During the week before her passing many family, friends, and neighbors called on her to say goodbye.
Denny was born on January 13, 1924, in Burley, Idaho the last of 12 children born to her parents William Cyrus Tolmon and Amanda Elison. During her early childhood, she moved to Southern California with her family and spent most of her life there. She graduated from Bell High School where she served as Senior Class President. She loved to play softball and during World War II coached a local men's softball team.
She met her third husband, Cecil Harold Hurley, in Southern California at a Veteran's dance where Cecil told her on their first dance that her real name was Nadine, not Denny, and he was going to marry her. She had attended the dance with her sister, Ellis Ferrin and thought she had told him her nickname. Aunt Ellie denied telling him anything. They were married in 1973 and eventually served together for 20 years in the Temple, starting at the Los Angeles Temple and finishing at the St. George Temple.
Denny was preceded in death by her parents; all of her eleven brothers and sisters; and her husband, Cecil Harold Hurley. She is survived by her two daughters: Sherry (Norman) Scott and Kim (Craig) Carpenter. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. At her bedside a few days before her passing, her young great-grandson, Elijah Mortensen, whispered to her "I'll love you forever". She was very much loved be her two children and all of their families.
She was active in the LDS Church and served in the Relief Society Presidency and in the Young Women's Presidency in La Mirada First Ward in California. She served also as first counselor in the Norwalk Stake Girls' Camp Program and loved going to Girls' Camp for many years.
Denny was generous to her family and friends and gave to many charitable organizations including: Veteran's, Police, and Firefighter's charities during her lifetime. She strongly believed in supporting our men and women who served our country.
