St. George, UT - Nicholas Louis (Louie) Detro (formerly of Spanish Fork) passed away January 23, 2010. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Louie was born June 7, 1915 in Toledo, Ohio to Joe Detro and Louisa Francisco. He was the fourth of six children. He was raised by foster parents, Edward and Emma Stadler. Louie married Faye Conder in 1946. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple. Faye passed away in 2004. He is survived by their four children: Susanne L. Nichols (David W.) of St. George; Sherrie L. Hutchings (Stephen B.) of Copperas Cove, TX; David L. Detro (Karen) of Longmont, CO; and Joseph C. Detro (Nicole M.) of Clearfield; two step-daughters: Rilla Dee Beck (Roland) of Centerfield and Lael Thalman of Sigurd; 23 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 38 step great-grandchildren; 6 step great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Dale Courter of Mt. Morris, MI; Wade Conder (Elaine) of Lewiston, ID ; sisters-in-law: Tex (Duane) Wilson of Richfield; Joye Ogden of Austin and Deane Frederick of Covina, CA. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents and siblings: Loretta Courter, Frank, Harry, and Joseph Detro and Stella Mariotti. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life he served in many church callings and as an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple. He was a devoted home teacher until his death. He retired from Chevrolet Motor Division in Flint, Michigan in 1976 with over 40 years of service. He was an active member of the United Auto Workers (UAW). Louie and Faye moved to Utah after his retirement. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club in Spanish Fork and was a member of the American Legion. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS Fort Pierce Ward Chapel, 750 Fort Pierce, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held on Friday, January 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services.
