Obituary

St. George, Utah - Norman LaCont Nielson passed away peacefully November 28, 2010 at his home of natural causes. He was born July 30, 1928 in Richfield, Utah to Miles L. Nielson and Vilda (Mason) Nielson. He married Mary Labrum in Ely, Nevada. They had six children. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; his children: Debi, Marianne and Lisa; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty; his sons: Kim, Kirk and Kris; and his son-in-law, Mark Matus. Norman was as an active member of the LDS Church and The Elks Lodge (B.P.O.E.). He managed 3,000 acres of farmland in Millard County and was in the banking business. He raised his children in Southern California at which time he owned a gas station, purchased Real Estate and was the top salesman for many years at Pacific Guardian Life Insurance. He retired in St. George and loved hiking, hunting, boating and riding his quad. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday, December 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, both at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the Richfield City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
