- Olivia Cerda Garza, 74, has peacefully returned home to the gates of heaven on January 24, 2019. She was born on February 10, 1944 in Edinburg, Texas, to Alejos Cerda and Juana Luna Cerda. She was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was married to Alabe Garza Sr. on June 7, 1958 in Danville, Illinois.
Olivia worked for Bear River Valley Care Center for 11 years, then she began working for La-Z-Boy where she later retired after 20 years. Her hobbies included; spending time with family and friends, cooking, sewing/crocheting, playing penny slots/bingo, helping others, and traveling to visit family. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church where she enjoyed receiving her Holy Eucharist.
Olivia is survived by her four children: Santiago (Jacqueline) Garza, Alabe Jr (Sandra) Garza, Mary (James) Nielsen and Priscilla (Chad) Roberts; siblings: Lazaro Cerda, Lilia Cerda, Octavio Cerda, Jesus Cerda and Nazario Cerda; 16 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alejos and Juana Cerda; husband, Alabe Garza Sr; three brothers: Gregorio Mendoza, Manuel Mendoza and Oton Cerda; and sister, Rosa Mendoza.
The family would like to thank CNS Home Health & Hospice, Dixie Regional Medical Center, and St. George Intermountain Cancer Center, for all of their help and support the past few months. We will be forever indebted to you for your compassionate services.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 West 200 North. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive Saint George, UT. A dinner will be served at the Catholic Church social hall after interment.
