Obituary

Pat Dixon St. George, UT - Pat Dixon, 93, passed away January 28th in St George Utah. She was born February 15, 1919 along with her twin sister Anne in Worcester, England to Billy Smith and May Flanagan Smith. She met and married John Dixon while serving as a nurse during World War II in Belgium. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen during her voyage to the states on the USS Independence. After the death of Pat's father in 1923, she and her sister Anne were sent to live with different relatives. Pat lived in London with her father's sister Jeff Darke while Anne moved to Ireland and lived with her mother's sister. Pat attended Convent schools through high school and continued on to college where she received her Bachelor's Degree. With the start of World War II, she moved to Brugge, Belgium to pursue nursing to assist in the war effort. She settled in Texas with her husband John Dixon, and had her only child Jacqueline in 1946. She traveled extensively, touching lives and making friends everywhere she went. Pat was a pioneer in the fitness industry and started running in her late 40's and ran marathons up until the age of 70. At the New Zealand Master's Athletic Games, she set records for her age group in the 5,000 meter track and road race, and the 10,000 meter track and road race. She still holds a record to this day, for the Steens Mountain 10k in Bend, Oregon for her age group. Pat loved animals and was committed to giving a loving home to all of her rescued dogs over the years. You could always find her out hiking surrounded by her dogs, and accompanied by one of her many friends. Going out with Pat anywhere in the Hurricane Valley, or St. George, was like going on a tour with the Queen. Everyone knew Pat and treated her like royalty. She is survived by her daughter Jackie Boone, her grandchildren Tamar Bryant, Justin Robledo, Sara Noonan and Jenna Noonan and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, February 3 at 10 AM at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 West 200 North, St. George, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Humane Society of your choice in her name. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
