St. George, UT - Patricia Lee Torrey Austin, 75, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2009. She left this world in her home surrounded by her family, after a short but valiant fight with lung cancer. Mom was born in St. Anthony, Idaho, on July 29, 1934. She was the baby of three children born to Ross and Esther Torrey. She married Howard J. Austin on March 4, 1952 and they have been married for over 57 years. Mom was a loving, caring Mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her computer, the daily crossword puzzle, playing Yahtzee with family, traveling, the plays at Tuacahn, but most of all, she enjoyed Family bonding time. She is survived by her four children: Kathryn Young (Don), Evelyn Hooley (Bruce), Michael Austin, and Howard T. Austin (Amber), 9 Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Grandchildren with another on the way. She is also survived by her two older brothers: Cleston and Jack Torrey. Preceded in death by her parents: Ross and Esther Torrey. Mom raised her family in Dugway, UT, and retired from her Civil Service job there to live out the rest of her life in St. George, UT. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services, but rather, a "Celebration of Life" to be held on November 28th (4-8:00 pm) in the Vista Ridge Clubhouse, 1331 N. Dixie Downs Rd., St. George, UT. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to the M.S. Society. God knew that you were suffering, and the hills were hard to climb, so he gently closed your eyelids and whispered "Peace be Thine." In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away; our hearts were nearly broken, you fought so hard to stay. It broke our hearts to see you go, but you did not go alone; for a part of us went with you, the day God called you home. Rest in peace Mom, we all love you so very much.
