IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Jane
Petty Magleby
February 1, 1934 – January 20, 2024
St. George, Utah - Patricia Jane Petty Magleby completed her mortal journey and passed away peacefully at her home in St. George on January 20, 2024, just shy of her 90th birthday. Pat was able to spend her last few days just as she did in life- in the loving company of family and friends.
Pat was born February 1, 1934, in Cedar City, Utah, the youngest of Frank H. Petty and Bertha Cottom's six children. She graduated from Cedar High School and what is now SUU, then attended BYU. Pat loved school and was always involved in student government and other activities. She would jokingly say that she majored in "extra-curricular".
In 1955, Pat married Dan Magleby of Monroe, Utah in the St. George Temple. Pat and Dan were a wonderful team for 65 years, their complimentary natures and shared goals forming a loving eternal partnership. They lived in many places in their early married years, ultimately settling in Boise, Idaho, which was home for raising their family of four boys. Pat was proud of her family, and cherished being the "mother of boys".
Pat had many talents and pursuits, but family was always the priority. She was the prime mover behind each of the boy's early business efforts- from selling fishing worms and mowing lawns, to bike shops and internships. She also created her own successful business "Hats by Pat", producing hand-made custom bridal headpieces for happy clients across the Intermountain West.
Pat was involved in many activities in Church and other organizations. She could always be relied on as the one to get things done- usually including a bit of fun along the way. Pat was an amazing hostess, whether for planned parties or impromptu visitors. She found joy in being with others and making them feel comfortable and at ease.
Pat exemplified the saying that "something worth doing is worth doing well." She met and overcame challenges through effort and perseverance. All that may have seemed to come easy to Pat was usually a result of hard work and determined will.
After Dan's retirement, Pat and Dan served an LDS mission in St. George, Utah. The love of their mission reinforced their desire to get back to their Utah roots. In 1997, they settled in Washington, Utah. There Pat found her "perfect career" working as a coordinator for Elderhostel/Road Scholar, a travel study program. She and Dan spent 14 years guiding many hundreds of people through their beloved corner of the world – the national parks and canyon lands of Southern Utah.
More important than the places Pat lived, were the people she came to know and love- the lifelong friends she made and cherished. Pat loved her family and friends, and blessed many lives with her caring, positive, and supportive personality. Her friendly nature drew others to her naturally. She knew no strangers.
Pat was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving and teaching in all of the many callings that came. She had an unwavering testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel, and eagerly shared that with others through both word and example.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bertha; her husband, Dan; her siblings: Reed, Acil, Beatrice, Leora, and Frank; and her grandchildren: Paige, Nicholas, Christian, and Wyatt.
She is survived by her four sons and their spouses: Spencer (Stephanie), Curtis (Sherri), Matthew (Emily), and Gregory (Tina); along with 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
A memorial service for Pat will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairway Ward Chapel, 1080 West Arlington Street, Washington, Utah.
