Obituary

Mary Patricia Moesinger, lovingly known as Patti, Mom, Nana, Great-Nana, and Miss Patti, passed away on July 15, 2025, in St. George, Utah, days before her 76th birthday, from health complications following a diagnosis of lymphoma.

Born July 23, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the proudly Irish family of Charles H. Hart and Sara "Sally" L. O'Brien, Patti was the eldest of six children. As a youngster, Patti would accompany her dad to the family grocery Chas H. Hart and Son in Cincinnati, setting out along country roads before dawn in the family car. Patti graduated from Archbishop McNicholas Catholic High School in 1967 and worked waiting tables at the Waffle House in Cincinnati. Married in 1970 to Daniel Humbert, she helped to run his family's truck stop diner in Kentucky, serving up homestyle food including dishes that became part of her repertoire (Patti was a wonderful cook), all the while raising their beloved children, Brian and Julie. Later, as a full-time single mom, she toiled unwaveringly to earn her teaching degree at Southern Utah University, with a focus on special education. Patti taught hundreds of elementary school children in Kanab, Las Vegas, and Bunkerville. She kept every note of gratitude given by her dear students. After retirement, she put her teaching expertise to work in the St. George Catholic Church Religious Education Program.

When Patti loved you, she let you know, and you really felt it. Her family, her dogs (who often enjoyed equal billing), her friends, her students, and her faith community were cared for, shopped for, and cherished. There was nothing she loved more than a full house of people enjoying each other's company. Patti was a champion at playing card games such as Uno; she almost always won. She was a Denver Broncos devotee, a Cincinnati Bengals fan, and a super-fan to her kids and grandkids at their countless sporting events. Patti loved celebrating occasions, generously remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of loved ones, and giving her all to decorate for every holiday, especially Christmas. She believed it was never too early to turn on Christmas music or hang a wreath, and she made every celebration feel magical and meaningful.

Patti is survived and deeply missed by her devoted husband of 26 years, Scott G. Moesinger, MD, her partner in life, love, and holiday decorating. She is also survived by her siblings: Casey, Mike, and Katie; her children: Brian Humbert and Julie Pendleton; and her stepchildren: Tabeetha Moesinger, Shoshanna Moesinger, Susan Cooper (Scott), Carol Foster (Paul), Fred Moesinger (Aimee), Christopher Moesinger (Kali), and Anna Sherman (Jacob).

Patti was an engaged and playful grandmother to Ryne Black (Samantha), Tyler Black (Kaitlin), Dylan Black, Kyle Black, Abigail Done (Dylan), Madelaine Moesinger (Zack), Paxton Valerio, Bronson Valerio, Ruby Linnell, Ronin Linnell, Victor Foster, Kieran Foster, Lucy Sherman, Max Sherman, Ava Sherman, and Mateo Moesinger. Patti delighted in her great-grandchildren: Brooks, Olivia, Miles, Avery, Luke, Hazel, Chloe, Lucia, and Danielle.

Patti was preceded in death by her sisters, Tracy and Lisa.

Patti lived a life of devotion, hard work, and caring for others. Her Catholic faith was not just part of her life — it was her life. Patti was called to make pilgrimages to holy sites around the world including Mexico City, Spain and France. Whether in service, worship, or quiet acts of love, Patti embodied what it meant to walk in faith.
