Obituary

St. George, Utah - Arthur Paul Noble, 87, of St George passed away Saturday February 12, 2011 at Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center from complications due to Myasthenia Gravis. Paul was born June 8, 1923 in Butler County, Pennsylvania to A. Dell and Ruth Thompson Noble. He grew up in Butler and graduated from Butler High. He entered Grove City College, a Presbyterian school in 1942; he left after less than one year for military service. During World War II he served as an enlisted man with the Army engineers in Europe. In May of 1946 he married Nancy Louise Weisenstein of Butler. He returned to Grove City College and graduated magna cum laude in 1948. In the fall of that year he entered Princeton Theological Seminary. He obtained his Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1951. That year he became the assistant minister at the Presbyterian Church in Leonia, New Jersey, assuming duties as minister in 1954. In 1966 Paul Nancy and family moved to Mount Pleasant, Utah where he joined the faculty at Wasatch Academy and became minister at First Presbyterian Church in Mt Pleasant. He is remembered by generations of his students there for his scholarship, gentle, principled leadership, and his humor. In 1987 he and Nancy retired to St George, where he became actively involved in the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. There he continued teach by example, befriend the lonely, and provide assistance to fellow clergy from many denominations as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed tennis, golf, hiking and visiting with friends, neighbors and especially his children and grandchildren. Paul and Nancy moved to the Meadows Retirement Community in 2009. Paul is survived by Nancy, his wife of 64 years, his three children, Tom (Vici) Noble of St George, Ruth (Richard) Larsen of Salt Lake City, and Jim (Heidi Spesard) Noble of Minneapolis, his grandchildren Danica Noble and Ally Noble of Seattle, Gabriela Noble of St George, and Arthur Noble and Eleanor Noble of Minneapolis. A great grandchild is expected in the next few weeks. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth, and his granddaughter Adriene Larsen. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 611 North 2450 East, St. George, Utah.
