Penny Degn Nielson

Hurricane, UT – Penny Degn Nielson, 91, died April 19, 2026 in Hurricane, UT. She was born March 31, 1935 in Price, UT to Fritz and Thelma Degn. She married Elden Nielson of Pleasant Grove, UT, in Evanston, WY, on August 12, 1953.

She lived as a small child in Price, UT later moving with her family to Springville, UT. She graduated from Springville High School in 1953. After she married Elden, they made their home and raised their family in Springville. Penny worked for many years for Nebo School district in their school lunch program. She enjoyed traveling, camping, rock collecting, and home improvement projects. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Elden Nielson; two daughters: JaNene (Bob) Shepherd and Deniece (Kathryn) Nielson; two grandchildren: Scott (Sharon) Shepherd and Rashell (Travis) Anderson; and four great-grandchildren: Ethan and Colin Shepherd, Mason and Tessa Anderson. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn “Kass” Black; and her brother, Butch (Debbie) Degn and numerous nieces and nephews.
