Obituary

St. George, Utah - Percy Garth Jonat passed away April 6, 2011 at Red Cliffs Regional Rehabilitation Center. He was born October 23, 1930 to Edward and Rosina Jonat in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised on his parents farm near Yorkton, attending a one room school house until entering High School in Yorkton. After graduating from Yorktown High School, he entered the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. Upon receiving his Bsc. Degree, he followed his older brothers footsteps and entered Medical School in at the University of Manitoba. After receiving his Medical Degree, he interned at Saskatoon City Hospital. While attending Medical School in Winnipeg, he met and married Janet Marie Vint in 1955, taking her to Saskatoon with him. In 1956, Janet and he moved to the small town of Nipawin in Northern Saskatchewan, where he practiced old-time general medicine - delivering babies, taking out tonsils, appendix and making house calls. Even though he was a busy physician, he found time to hunt ducks, deer and even moose. During the summer months he found his passion for golf. During their eight years in Nipawin, two children were born to them - Barbara in 1957 and Edward (Ted) in 1958. In 1964, the family moved to Watsonville, CA where he continued to practice general medicine for 27 years. Retiring in 1991, Percy and Janet moved to St. George where Bloomington Country Club became his second home. However, for ten years he and Janet RV-ed for about six weeks every summer visiting relatives in Canada and stopping in Montana, Minnesota and various other states to sight-see and play golf. Now he joins his golfing buddies that have gone before him. Percy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; daughter, Barbara (Niel) Lauzon of Red Deer, AB; son Ted Jonat of Stockton, CA; his grandchildren: Rachel (Jared) Friesen, Nathan, Harmony, Silas, Susanna ans Jeremiah; and bothers: Loren (Jean) of Calgary, AB and Glen (Maidrid) of Vernon, BC. At Percys request there will be no funeral. His ashes will be taken to Alberta and buried at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
