IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter N
Garff
December 12, 1936 – March 10, 2023
St. George, Utah - Peter N. Garff passed away peacefully in his home in St. George, Utah on March 10, 2023. He was surrounded by family who loved him dearly.
Peter was born in Logan, Utah on December 12, 1936, to Viola Crismon and Orson Garff. He had a happy childhood working in his father's garden, swinging on the rope swing across the creek, dragging main street on Friday nights, and teasing his sister, Louise.
He served a mission for his Savior in the New England States Mission and returned to finish his Bachelor's Degree at Utah State University and then a Master's Degree at Brigham Young University.
Peter married his eternal companion, Sharon Sue Watkins, in the Los Angeles Temple on January 14, 1967. Over the next 56 years they were blessed with four children: Lisa (Clark) Cordner; Matthew (Wendy) Garff, Crismon (Sara) Garff, and Jennifer (Paul) Haywood; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. It was his ultimate joy to be with them.
Peter taught seminary and institute for many years and was a financial and tax planner. He had a natural gift for teaching and sharing his testimony of Jesus Christ. He taught lessons of faith and charity to his family as well as thousands of others over many decades. The life lessons he taught are still lived by many.
He and Sharon served missions in the Joseph Smith Building and the Church Employment Center. They also served a church education mission in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2009-2010. After serving for five years in the Salt Lake Temple, they retired to St. George in 2016.
Above all else, Peter loved his Savior and his family. He expressed gratitude continually for his wife and children. His family was blessed with his example of a loving, dedicated husband and father. He was in awe of his blessings of family and would frequently express his deep feelings of appreciation in family prayer.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1762 South River Road, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Peter will be buried in his family plot in the Logan City Cemetery on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.
His celebration of life will be broadcasted via Zoom. Please reach out to a family member if you would like the link.
