Hurricane, Utah - Pheobe Hannig DeMille, age 84, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 13, 1927 in Washington, Utah to Joseph and Sopha Hannig. She married Glendon DeMille on December 22, 1944. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on April 10, 1947.
She graduated from the College of Southern Utah in Elementary Education. She taught in the Washington County School District for 24 years, where she received Teacher of the Year and recognition for excellence in teaching. She was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various leadership positions on both the ward and stake level. She and her husband, Glendon, served as full-time missionaries at the St. George Historical Sites from 1988 to 1989. They also served as ordinance workers in the St. George LDS Temple.
Her love of genealogy was exemplified by her years of service doing extraction and indexing work. She was an active member of the Buenos Amigos club and loved spending time with the friends she met there. She lived a life dedicated to service that has brightened the lives of many. She loved quilting, baking bread, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family will forever remember the time they spent visiting together in her living room.
She is survived by her four daughters, Linda (James) Nelson, Cedar City, Utah; Glena (Kelly) Wilson, LaVerkin, Utah; Francie (Kelly) Hansen, Layton, Utah; Julie (Stephen) Lemmon, Hurricane, Utah; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Glenna Leany, Arnold Hannig, Warren Hannig, Karen Leslie, Cleo Ballard, Arlene Stanworth, and Verden Hannig. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glendon DeMille; her father, Joseph Arnold Hannig; her mother, Sopha Prince Hannig; sisters, Fern Riding; Wilma Bolstad; and brother, Willard Hannig.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS West Stake Center, 272 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening, October 19, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 100 North Main, Hurricane, Utah and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center. The interment will be held at the Hurricane City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LDS Perpetual Educational Fund.
