Obituary

St. George, Utah – Ralph LeRoy Stiff, 98, passed away January 28. 2022. He was born October 29, 1923, in Durand, Michigan. He lived there through the depression and was so fortunate that his father hunted, and his mother had a beautiful productive garden that provided for Dad and his six siblings during this difficult time. He told of many fun and fond memories of his childhood.

Dad was married to our mother, Betty Myers Stiff for 65 years. They lived in Michigan, California, and ultimately St. George, Utah for the last 30 years. They spent summers in Beaver Canyon in their motorhome where they made many friends and enjoyed fishing for trout. Betty passed away March 26, 2012. He was by her side during her last years, giving so much love and support as she struggled with dementia. Together they had a daughter, Cheri Greaves (Bill), a son, Gary Stiff (Sonya), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Dad was a member of The Greatest Generation. He served three years in the Asian Pacific region as a Army infantry soldier during WWII. He was immensely proud of his service. Even though it was during war time, and he saw battle, he always told us what an incredible experience and education it was.

Dad resided at Southern Utah Veterans Home, Ivins, Utah the last two and a half years. We are so grateful for all of his fellow veterans and the incredible staff who cared for him.

For years our father would tell all his family and friends "I've had a hell of a good life." He was the ultimate proud American to the very end and we are proud to call him our father.
