Obituary

Washington, Utah - Ranee Sherratt Burtis, born July 12, 1931, in Los Angeles, California to Earl Kenneth Sherratt and Halley Barton Sherratt, passed from this mortal realm on October 7, 2024, at her home in Washington, UT surrounded by her family and then received with open arms by her Savior and her loving family members.

We know she is having a joyful reunion with her beloved father, mother, and her brother, Jim. She adored them. She was 93 years young! She was blessed to be able to stay healthy enough to live at home and be quite independent with the help of family and great friends, the Hirschis.

Ranee was married to Roland Joseph Demers on February 19, 1950, and they had a beautiful daughter together, Odette. They were later divorced and then she married Charles Ransom Burtis on July 14, 1956, in Los Angeles, California. This union brought two handsome boys, Charles Raymond and Earl Kenneth. They were later divorced. Ranee was raised in Los Angeles, California, and later lived in Yucaipa, California while she worked for her father at his business as a receptionist.

Ranee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was in charge of the ward bulletin for many years in Washington, UT.

She made the best cheesecake, baked beans, and clam chowder and passed these great recipes on to her children. She loved doing Sudoku, traveling to Las Vegas and spending the day exploring, and many years crocheting baby blankets, throws, and rugs. She was great with ceramics and shared her creations with her family. She loved when family would come and visit her and she would always ask, "What do you know for sure?" She would always stand outside as we would drive away and watch until she couldn't see us anymore and wave.

Ranae would always make sure she had some treats when you came to visit, and she took the time to find out what you liked and have it available when you visited. She was a dog lover and had several dogs that she rescued from the shelter and gave them the best life.

Ranee is survived by her sister, Marie McTeer, Chubbuck, ID; and her children: Odette Demers Nisson (Garth) Washington, UT, Charles Raymond Burtis (Babette) Hyrum, UT, Earl Kenneth Burtis (LaNett) Enterprise, UT; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 11, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West Saint George Blvd. St George, UT.

A graveside service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington City Cemetery located at 300 Park View Drive, Washington, Utah.
