IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Andrew
Sylvester, Jr.
September 14, 1941 – May 15, 2025
LaVerkin, Utah - Raymond Andrew Sylvester, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend peacefully passed away on May 15, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on September 14, 1941, Raymond lived a life of service, adventure, and deep love for his family and faith.
Raymond proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1978, where he earned distinction as the #1 sniper and a demolition expert with the Navy SEALs. His discipline, courage, and commitment to others were lifelong hallmarks.
A passionate drag racer, Raymond began his professional racing career in 1968. He raced actively until 2000, and his love for the sport never faded. He passed on his knowledge and skills to his youngest daughter, Rebecca, who grew up immersed in the world of racing – from before she was born through high school and beyond. Together they built and tuned their racecars by hand, forging not just engines but unforgettable memories.
Later in life, Raymond became a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith in Jesus Christ was unwavering and became central to everything he did. He found deep joy and purpose in his membership and looked forward to church with genuine excitement. His faith shaped his relationships and the way he served those around him.
Raymond was a man of deep compassion and generosity. He loved his family dearly, always putting others before himself, and his legacy of service and love will live on in each of them.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen J. Sylvester; his daughters: Mary Ann Sylvester-Argo, Elizabeth Martinez, and Rebecca Ann Sylvester-Bridge. He was a proud grandfather and great grandfather.
Mary Ann's family: her husband, Sid Argo; grandchildren: Keith Allen Sylvester, Nathan James Sylvester, Lacey Marie Sylvester, and Beverly Pinkerton; and great grandchildren: Brooklyn Pinkerton and Kaly Bunner.
Elizabeth's family: Husband, Mickey Martinez; and grandsons: Aaron Martinez and Daniel Martinez.
Rebecca's family: Husband, Dane Jon Bridge.
Raymond was cherished by a wide circle of friends – too many to list – each of whom was touched by his generosity, wisdom and humor.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering love.
