Veyo, Utah - Rena Gubler Leavitt, 88,passed away early Monday morning, April 23, 2012 from causes incident to old age. She was born in Santa Clara, Utah on October 28, 1923 to Esther Stucki and Casper Ensign Gubler. She spent her growing up years in Santa Clara, and enjoyed a happy childhood even though economic times were tough for her family. She attended grades one through six at the old rock school house in Santa Clara and graduated from Dixie High School in St. George.
Rena married Edward Leo Leavitt on January 5, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada just ten days after Leo returned from WWII. Their marriage was sealed for time and eternity in the St. George LDS Temple on January 11, 1947. She lived most of her married life in Veyo, Utah.
Rena is the mother of five surviving children: one son, Steven Leo (Rae) Leavitt of Veyo; four daughters: Doris (Mike) Johnson and Sandra (Larry) Staheli both of Veyo, LaRene (Dean) Cox of St. George and Vicky Sue (Stuart) Morris also of Veyo. Her posterity includes twenty grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, E. Leo Leavitt; her parents; a brother, Norman Ensign Gubler; and sisters: Marvel Joy Gubler, Veda Blossom Lyle, Florence Mary Hunter, Mae Whitehead, Nina Atkin and Doreen Gubler.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Veyo LDS Ward Chapel, 176 East Center Street, Veyo, Utah. Friends and family may visit with Renas family Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and on Friday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Veyo City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
