IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rexine Horlacher
Bullock
September 30, 1952 – April 20, 2021
St. George, Utah – Rexine Horlacher Bullock, 68, was born on September 30, 1952, in Pioche, NV to parents Robert James (Bob) and Roma Horlacher. She was the second eldest of eight children in the Horlacher family. The Horlacher family moved from Pioche to Delta, UT when Rexine was five years old. When she was 13, the family settled at 223 S. Main St. in St. George, UT. As a student, she attended Woodward, Dixie High School, Dixie College, and graduated from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, UT with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Rexine adored children. She taught 5 th and 6 th grades at Woodward, Diamond Valley, and Bloomington Elementary schools in the Washington County School District for 30 years. She delighted in hearing a child giggling about the simplest things, but she was also a masterful teacher who knew how to shush a room full of kids with just a look. Bullying and all other unkind behaviors were not tolerated in Mrs. Bullock's classroom. Her class was always one of the most highly requested by parents and students would often remark that she was their favorite teacher, even years later. In addition to being recognized with awards for teaching excellence, she enjoyed the mentoring relationships she forged with fellow teachers. Her classroom was often the second faculty lounge where staff liked to hang out, laugh, and get free therapy while Rexine listened and offered gentle advice.
From a young age, Rexine had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the piano at home, at school with her students, and at church. She loved being surrounded by good people who shared her faith. Her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was something she held close to her heart as she did her best to live her life in accordance with its principles and teachings.
She described her three children as her proudest accomplishments. Even though she despised traveling, as her kids ventured out into the world, she sometimes found herself in strange, unfamiliar places like Pennsylvania, New York City, North Carolina, and Boston—places she never wanted to go to but was probably glad she did.
Rexine enjoyed challenging her mind by reading, faithfully watching nightly episodes of Jeopardy!, and doing crossword puzzles for which she always asked for help on any clues related to pop culture. She also rarely missed watching BYU football and basketball games, Utah Jazz games, and every British melodrama imaginable.
Rexine is survived by her three children: Brian (Joni) Bullock of Henderson, NV, Micki (Matheson) Harris of Salt Lake City, UT, and Casey (Tiffany) Bullock of Kaysville, UT; her grandkids: Becket (17), Gretchen (15), Micah (13), Camden (3), Morgan (3), and Bridget (3 weeks); siblings: Russ Horlacher, Kris Horlacher Nielsen, Liz Horlacher Bracken, Tricia Horlacher Nelson, Bentley Horlacher Sullivan, Scott Horlacher, and Tracy Horlacher Bigelow.
She will be remembered as an empathic listener with a witty sense of humor and unpretentious charm who never wanted to be a burden to anyone.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the St. George 2 nd Ward Chapel, 166 South Main Street, St. George, Utah. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
