St. George, Utah
- Richard James Ball, 84, passed away on December 8th, 2015. He was born on December 28, 1930 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Richard grew up in Ammon, Idaho with his parents Leonard Garfield and Sybil Frongner Ball, he was the youngest of 14 children. Richard went to high school in Idaho Falls where he played on the basketball team and met the love of his life, Bonnie Rae Matthews. Richard served an LDS mission to Germany. On May 7, 1954 he and Bonnie were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were married 60 years when she passed in March of 2014.
Richard and Bonnie lived in Provo, Utah while Richard obtained his degree from BYU and Bonnie taught Home Education at Provo High School. With their children, Deborah and Bradford, they settled in Tustin, CA near Richard's parents who had moved to Long Beach. Richard worked in banking for most of his career in Southern California and in Utah.
The family moved to St. George in 1972 and settled in Bloomington. Richard loved to golf and in those early years would often walk out of the back yard and start a round. Richard loved his family and they will always love him.
Survivors include his children; Deborah Roberts of Salt Lake City and Bradford Ball (Tracy) of Gilbert, AZ. He leaves five grandchildren; Ryan Roberts (Ashly), Megan Croft (Nathan), Brita Harper (Golden), Mason Ball, and Emma Schaub (Carson), and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Donetta Elliot, Emmalyn Degan (Bob), and sister-in-law, Afton Ball.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Rae Matthews and his son-in-law William Kraig Roberts.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
