IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Charles
"Dick" Rein, Jr.
March 16, 1927 – January 2, 2025
Hurricane, Utah – Dick Rein, 97, died on January 2, 2025, in St. George, Utah. He was born on March 16, 1927, in Los Angeles, California to Richard Charles and Kathryn Patricia Rein, and was their only child.
Dick was raised in Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 17, 1944, one day after his 17th birthday, and served as a Signalman Third Class in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation. Following his service to our country and honorable discharge, Dick returned home to finish his high school education, graduating from George Washington High School in Los Angeles, California. Dick was admitted to San Jose State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was employed by the State of California as a parole officer, retiring in 1977 after 23 years. Dick was a successful real estate entrepreneur, specializing in the acquisition and development of multifamily apartment buildings in California and Utah. He diversified and ventured into developing industrial and storage properties. Dick was a Master Mason, a Hiram Award recipient and member of St. George Lodge No. 33, Free and Accepted Masons of Utah, a Master of the Royal Secret, 32 Degree, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, El Kalah Shrine Temple; a Royal Arch Mason in St. George Chapter No. 10, Royal Arch Masons of Utah; a Royal and Select Master in Zion Council No. 7, Cryptic Masons of Utah; and a Knights Templar, Golgotha Commandery No. 7, Knights Templar of Utah.
Flying was Dick's passion. He was a private pilot for over 35 years and even founded a small regional airline and fixed base operator at the St. George Regional Airport. In his earlier years, Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, hiking, and skiing. He liked to gunsmith and work with his hands on numerous projects. Dick was a generous philanthropist and benefactor. Perhaps, above all else, Dick was a dog lover.
Dick Rein is survived by his loving children: Ardelle (Carl) Rein, Tish (Martin) Lisonbee, and Dean (Edith) Rein; grandchildren: Blythe Young, Trevor Bradley, Lindsey (Joshua) Cutler, Katie Pledger, and Taylor (Jason) Pledger; and great grandchildren: Chloe Young, Callie Young, Carmen Young, Rylee Pledger and Jace Cutler. Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Rein (died 1996) and Madeline Rein (died 2024).
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to their favorite charities.
