June 3, 1930 – October 16, 2020
St. George, Utah – Richard Cleon Higley, 90, passed away October 16, 2020. He was born June 3, 1930 in Battle Mountain, Nevada to Merlin and Mae Weeks Higley. He married LaRue Barnes in Elko, Nevada. They later divorced. He married Kathleen Laughter on August 15, 1974 in Elko, Nevada.
Dick served his country in the U.S. Army and was very proud of his service. He worked for Kennecott as a heavy equipment operator for many years at the smelter. After retiring from Kennecott, he worked for ZCMI. Dick was an "one armed bandit" - he enjoyed going to Mesquite and playing the slots.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children: Debbie Campbell, Valinda (Bobby) Van Komen, Rich Rowley, Shannon (Chris) Goodwill and Shayne Rowley; stepsons: Mike (Judy) Hutchens and Robert (Marge) Johnson; brother, Larry Higley; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for Corrine Parry and DJ Bailey. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rochelle Peebles; brothers: Daniel and Robert; and sister-in-law, Vernae Higley.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday, prior to services, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
