Richard Don Jardine, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, in American Fork, Utah on October 1, 2017, from cause's incident to age. He was born June 20, 1934, in Gooding, ID, to Richard Woodrow Jardine and Lorentze Jensen Jardine.
The son of a railroad engineer, Don moved "up and down the track" and grew up surrounded by family with lots of musical talent. He graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, UT, lettering in football. He played football at BYU where he received his degree in Sociology. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway. Upon his return, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was released from Basic Training in Fort Sill, OK on March 20. Two days later, he married Mona Irene Christensen for time and for all eternity on March 22, 1958 in the LDS Los Angeles Temple.
Following his full-time service, of 27 years, with the Utah National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Major, Don's career choices included finance, insurance and his favorite, an independent truck driver. He loved his time on the road.
Don was a life-long, faithful, and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of his callings included: bishop, finance clerk, primary teacher, and Boy Scout leader. He and Mona served a mission at and were later directors of the St. George Family History Center, a calling they loved deeply.
Don cared about people, not things. He was a man of integrity and unconditional love. He selflessly helped others and always put others ahead of himself. This was especially true of his sweetheart, Mona. He and Mona were most proud of their six children, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one coming soon. He is a great example of patriotism, service and leadership.
Don is survived by his sweetheart of 59 years, Mona; his siblings: Bettie June Morris, Lorentze Dee Ann Cook, Shirley Elise (Dale) Briggs, and Tamera Lee (Rob) Jardine-Baker; his children: Donna (Christopher "Kit") Law of Cedar City, UT; Laura (Todd) Groskreutz of Draper, UT; Jeanette (Greg) Light of Meridian, ID; Richard L. (Paula) Jardine of Highland, UT; Robert M. Jardine of Woods Cross, UT; and Suzette (Preston) Pearson of Riverton, UT. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Phyllis Jean, and his brothers, Robert "Bob"
Lundlie Jardine and Leslie Woodrow Jardine.
