Hurricane, Utah - Richard Dennis Layne passed away with family by his side November 1st, 2023 in Hurricane, UT. He was 87 years old. He was born November 27, 1935 in Lewiston, Utah to Edith Kent Layne and Richard Leland Layne.

Dennis and his wife Nedra Merrill were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple August 10, 1961. They were married 48 years. Together they raised seven children and have 34 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Dennis served a mission for The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints in Germany in the 1950s. He earned his bachelor's degree from Utah State University, his master's at University of Redlands, and his PhD in music education from University of Southern California. He was a professor of music at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota for nearly 50 years. He blessed numerous lives through his gift of music and teaching.

Dennis is preceded in death by his first wife Nedra; his second wife Nelean; and his grandson, Alex.

Funeral Services to be held on Saturday November 18, 2023 at 12:30 p.m., with a memorial display and visiting prior at 12:00 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 2200 South 4300 West, Ogden UT 84401. Interment will be in the Whitney, Idaho Cemetery.

Funeral Service will be broadcast via Zoom Meeting.
